things have been very quiet in the studio. for a while it was just too cold to work with polymer. then i got a new job which took up many hours. i'm just finally getting used to the new schedule and things are calming down. i've been working on my house, making curtains, scraping adhesive off the hardwood floors, doing a bit of gardening..... i also started making some frames for my friend jennifer.
originally i wanted them to be similar to this wallplate i had made for my bathroom. i started on the polymer prototype
but i realized it would be too difficult to do because the size of the frame would be larger than my pasta machine. i decided to use book board as a base and make a textured surface.
i like these a lot. later i was able to begin to paint them
i like the layers, the texture and the gradation of color. i'm a little stumped for what to do next. i just printed out the pictures that the frames will hold, so that should give me some direction.
i'm packing now to fly to seattle for artfest. i've been really looking forward to it. i'll be taking a class on encaustics, and a two day workshop with keith lo bue. i've worked with him before and he was an amazing teacher. i'm also looking forward to spending time with friends. i think this will give me the creative jump start i need.
