it has just been too hot to do much of anything!
we got the tree cut down. it was so big!
my basement leaked soon after the tree disaster, and i had to pull all the furniture away from the leaking wall. i had been wanting to paint the basement/studio, so i decided that this was as good a time as any. the brick is a big mess!!
i took down the drywall from the ceiling, the firring from the walls, and some remaining panelling. there was a ton of dust and crap behind the panelling.
the wood you see there was all attached to the walls. there were also big spaces between the windows and the walls. i filled those with the inappropriately named "great stuff". when that dried i trimmed it, sanded it, and went over the gaps with caulk.
i had to clean the salt deposits and dirt off the walls. i primed the brick with drylok and the wood with kilz. i've been painting it white. the drylok was oil based, though, so i'm stuck because i don't have any oil paint. i didn't want to put 2 coats of drylok because it is expensive. i went over some spots with spray paint, but i think i will have to go out today and buy some regular oil paint because the color seems a bit gray. it does look so much better already.
